Van Gogh feat. Emiliano Pepe

On the evening of April 23, 2022, the immersive exhibition Van Gogh e i Maledetti – Emotion Exhibition came to life in a one-night-only special edition featuring a live piano performance by Emiliano Pepe. Set in the evocative location of the the Cattedrale dell’Immagine. This event blended visual art and live music into an unforgettable sensorial journey. Van Gogh’s masterpieces, along with works by Cézanne, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Soutine and Modigliani, were projected in 360° in ultra-high definition, accompanied by an emotional live soundtrack composed and performed in real time. The immersive show, originally created by Crossmedia Group, was reinterpreted for the occasion through the expressive lens of musical improvisation. At the center of the performance was Emiliano Pepe, an eclectic musician and producer known for his soulful approach to composition and his ability to blend classical training with modern genres like R&B, hip hop and electronic. Pepe guided the audience through a soundscape entirely improvised, with each note responding directly to the visual stimuli of the projections. His performance transformed the exhibition into a living dialogue between image and sound, giving new emotional depth to each scene. The result was a unique crossover between digital storytelling and live performance, gifting the audience a deeply emotional experience that fused painting, sound and movement in the heart of Florence.

For this special performance, I was responsible for the full management and adjustment of the video projection system. I re-edited the immersive visuals of Van Gogh e i Maledetti – Emotion Exhibition to ensure their rhythm and tone matched the emotional atmosphere of Emiliano Pepe’s live performance. The result was a fully harmonized audiovisual dialogue between music and image.
