The exhibition

Inside Magritte transformed the Cattedrale dell'Immagine, the deconsecrated 11th-century Romanesque church of Santo Stefano al Ponte in Florence, into a 50-minute journey through René Magritte's surrealist universe. Curated by Julie Waseige with the scientific support of the Fondation Magritte in Brussels, it set the artist's uncanny imagery against baroque architecture. More than 160 images were projected using the Matrix X-Dimension® system, alongside a mirror room and a VR experience that let visitors step inside works such as The Son of Man, The Lovers and The Treachery of Images. Mapping Magritte's dreamlike world onto the surfaces of a centuries-old sacred space gave the Florence edition a charged, almost paradoxical dialogue between the image and its setting.

My contribution

I ran the Florence edition as Project and Production Manager alongside my colleague Giulia Raineri. I handled the logistics, coordinated the local teams, and oversaw the seamless integration of every multimedia element within one of Florence's most evocative venues. The real challenge was mapping the show onto the church's baroque architecture while holding to the exact standards set by the previous international editions of Inside Magritte.
